PAPER 1
Section A: TV

Q1:
5 marks = make 2 points
Always an analysis question and you have to analyse one element of media language from the extract

Q2:
10 marks = make 3 points
An analysis and judgement question. you must analyse and make judgements to one or more areas based on media language and representation. You may wish to refer to contexts. Judgements will be made throughout. You must write a short sentence at the end which sums up judgement(s).

Q3:
15 marks = make 4 points (or 3 very well developed points)
10 marks for analysis and 5 for judgement
this is an extended response and will focus on media language and representation. it will always ask to refer to theoretical framework (LARI C) and make judgements throughout. You MUST write a concise conclusion which draws in your overall judgement.

Q4.
5 marks = make 2 points
It will be a TV industry focused question and is there to rest your knowledge and understanding - PSB, BBC, Technology, regulation, diverse audiences etc.

Q5.
10 marks = make 3 points
This question will always be about the influence of media contexts. It will ask about either social, cultural or historical contexts and you must refer it to the television drama that they have provided.

Section B: Promoting Media

Q6.
1 mark
this will be a knowledge based question. You will either have to identify or define Conglomerate, synergy, who produced The Lego Movie etc.

Q7.
4 marks = make 2 points or explain one thing in detail
you will be required to show your knowledge and understanding of any of the three media forms: Film, advertising & marketing or video games

Q8.
10 marks = make 3 points
This question will ask you to demonstrate knowledge and understanding. You could be asked about audience, codes & conventions of the products, media language etc.

Q9.
10 marks = make 3 points
This will be an analysis question and it will either be based on media language, representation or audiences. You will only be asked about advertising or video games, not film.
You will need to know the set texts in terms of media language, genre, audience, codes and conventions, representations etc.
The posters as packaging of the video game will be provided in an insert, the TV advert will not be.

PAPER 2

Section A: Music

Q1.
1 mark
will be a knowledge based questions. either identify or define

Q2.
4 marks = make 2 points
This questions will be knowledge and understanding based. The media product (your set music videos, MOJO magazine or Radio 1 live lounge) and are of the framework will change each year.

Q3.
10 marks = make 3 points
You will have a question in relation to any relevant area of the theoretical framework in relation to either your set music videos, Mojo magazine or radio 1 live lounge.

Q4.
5 marks = make 2 points
you will be required to analyse media language or media representations with reference to provided extracts

Q5.
15 marks = make 4 points
this questions will always be about media language, but the area will change every year.
you will be required to make comparisons about two magazine extracts. One will be from MOJO and the other will be an unknowns magazine.

Section B: News

Q6.
1 mark
wil be a knowledge based questions. either identify or define

Q7. 
4 marks = make 2 points
this will be a question that tests your knowledge and understanding of news as a form: e.g.. funding models, regulation

Q8.
5 marks = make 2 points
This question will be analytical. You will have to analyse either media language or representation in relation to an extract from The Observer online or print.

Q9.
15 marks = make 4 points (10 for analysis and 5 for judgements)
This question will be based on media language or representation in relation to print newspapers or any are of the framework for online. You must ensure that you analyse and make judgements.

Q10.
10 marks = make 3 points
this question will be about the influence of media contexts. It will not refer to a specific historical or contemporary contexts. That is up to you.  You will need to show your understanding of the influence of media contacts in relation to either historical or contemporary news. Eg. female vs male politician , the way divorce was covered, espionage & cold war.
